~ The Week in Review ~
The Scholastic Book Fair in the library was a popular event last week. Students had the opportunity to preview the book fair on Monday and Tuesday, then purchases could be made beginning on Wednesday. The book fair will continue through Thursday (March 16).
We had a lockdown drill Thursday afternoon. Students and staff responded appropriately and did a great job. We will continue to practice our response to emergency situations to ensure everyone knows what they need to do. I know this is an emotional subject and one that none of us like to dwell on, but being prepared is our best defense or response to any emergency.
Please review the following expectations and recommendations for parents and guardians during our drills or actual emergencies:

Please review the following expectations and recommendations for parents and guardians during our drills or actual emergencies:
- Please do not come to the school campus.
- Please do not call the school. Office staff will be actively engaged in the drill or the actual emergency.
- Do not attempt to contact students or staff members via cell phone or social media.
- Avoid making social media posts. Factual information will be distributed through our automated system as soon as reliable information is available.
- Please make sure your contact information in PowerSchool is up to date so you can receive information from the school or district without delay.
- In the event of an actual emergency evacuation, you will receive notification where to pickup your student as soon as the threat is no longer present.
Thursday marked the 100th day of school for Sierra Vista Elementary. Our younger classes have a tradition of celebrating this milestone. The kindergarten and 1st grade teachers all wore shirts that said "Rockin' 100 Days in School" and the kindergartners wore little crowns boasting that they were "100 Days Smarter." Some of them went all out to mark the occasion by dressing like they were 100 years old. The results were predictably hilarious and adorable.
We celebrated our February Hawks of the Month on Thursday. Each classroom teacher selected one student from their class to recognize as their student of the month.
~ Looking Forward ~
After a very successful opening, Sierra Vista's Scholastic Book Fair will continue through this week. We have already reordered items that were quickly sold out in the first two days.
Our third graders will be visiting the Space Foundation Discovery Center in Colorado Springs on Monday. The visit will fit in nicely with some of the things they have been learning as part of their science/CKLA lessons.
This week's Treats & Tees:
Treats & Tees takes place most every week on Thursdays. It helps us develop school spirit as well as raise a little money for the school and for our PTO. This week's treat will be Shamrock Suckers, 2 for $1 each. This week's T-shirt "Green Day" - anything green.
